How to Set Up Out Of Office / Vacation Responder

To set an out-of-office response in Google Workspace, you can use the vacation responder in Gmail or create an out-of-office event in Google Calendar.

To set an "Out of office" status through Google Calendar, follow these steps:

  • Open Google Calendar.

  • Click the first date you will be out of the office at the top of your calendar.

  • Select Out of office.

  • Select the dates and times for when you will be away.

  • Optional: To make the event repeat, click the drop-down menu next to "Does not repeat" and select a frequency.

  • Optional: Update your decline settings and edit your decline message 

  • Click Save

   



Setting an out-of-office message in Gmail:

  • On your computer, open Gmail.

  • At the top right, click Settings  (gear ⚙️ icon)  and select See all settings.

  • Under the "General" tab, scroll down to the "Vacation responder" section.

  • Select Vacation responder on.

  • Fill in the date range, subject, and message.

  • Optional: Check the box to send the reply only to your contacts or people in Vice.

  • Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page


Note: Google Chat automatically respects your Google Calendar settings and will broadcast your status as out of office if your OOO is enabled on your calendar. Individual chats, including direct messages, group messages, and spaces, also have their own notification settings where you can set preferences specifically for that chat.
